ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION

Hard seltzer drinks are marketed as a healthy option due to their relatively low calorie content.

Understanding why and when they drink alcohol may help you support them. Further discussion can help you better understand your teen.

— Discuss the long-term health and future impacts of alcohol with your teen.

— Set clear rules and expectations about alcohol use.

— Discuss the long-term health and future impacts of alcohol with your teen to help them make informed decisions.

— Encourage open communication about their experiences and feelings regarding alcohol to foster trust and honesty.

The longer you wait to start drinking, the less likely you are to become addicted.  Underage drinking can result in:  unintentional injuries (car crashes, falls burns and drownings), violence (fighting and sexual assualt), changes in brain development (impacts school performance), poor decision making (judgement is impaired and risky behaviors occur) and death (binge drinking accounts for most alcohol-related deaths).
